Tensions ran high on opening night! There was a dispute with the set-builder’s union and they walked off the stage WITH THE SET right before the curtains opened. The decision was made to go ahead with the play, even though the scenery would certainly be of the minimalist variety.

There was thunderous applause from the sold-out crowd!
Afterwards, some of the audience spoke to members of the press and the following was overheard:
“Better than Eddie Clark’s Penguins!”
“Desdemona was great! Death is one of the few things that can be done just as easily lying down.”
“The killing was the best part. It was the dying I couldn’t take.”
“There are worse things in life than death. Have you ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman?”
“That Desdemona sounded English, but when you’re from Pittsburgh, you have to do something…”
“I liked Eddie Clark’s Penguins better.
